VARIOLUX 750 proclaimed ADAC test winner
Find out what makes the STEMA Variolux 750 stand out and which comparable models STEMA offers.
The ADAC test winner VARIOLUX 750 and its alternatives
The STEMA trailer VARIOLUX 750 was compared by the ADAC with trailers from other manufacturers and proclaimed test winner with a rating of "good." You can find out more about the ADAC verdict, the VARIOLUX, identical STEMA models, and how STEMA trailers have been further optimised in the article.
The ADAC directly compared several car trailers with a maximum permissible total weight of 750 kilograms, including: The unbraked VARIOLUX 750 trailer, manufactured by STEMA. This model performed best being awarded a "good" rating. According to the ADAC, the trailer particularly excelled in terms of its smooth driving behaviour and secure handling.
What makes the VARIOLUX 750 stand out
The test winner has 13-inch wheels and steel drop sides that come with a weather-resistant aluminium-zinc coating, thus facilitating a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty. The side walls, including the mounted railing, are 38 centimetres high, providing sufficient space for bulk goods, garden waste, moving boxes, and more besides. The vehicle’s maximum payload is 609 kilograms.
The VARIOLUX 750 is equipped with a coupling guard, a fitted jockey wheel, an anti-theft device and numerous lashing options, including four sturdy lashing hooks in the loading area and buttons on the drop sides. This means that the load can be easily protected with tarpaulins or safety nets, for instance. Load security was a key factor in the ADAC test, where each trailer was tested fully loaded over a simulated journey of 10,000 kilometres.
VARIOLUX just for OBI customers – various alternative are on offer at STEMA
The VARIOLUX 750 model is exclusively manufactured by STEMA with this name and equipment for a specific customer group and is only sold there. However, the advantages of this trailer can also be found in a whole range of other STEMA models. For instance, all trailers in the STEMA BASIC series come with an anti-corrosion warranty.
The driving behaviour of the VARIOLUX, which scored best of all the trailers tested by the ADAC, can also be found in other STEMA models. And this is because: the chassis responsible for the good driving performance is identical to that used in the STEMA models FT 7.5, BASIC 750, and BASIC plus 750.

Safe driving, even when loaded
The key to good driving performance lies in the stable continuous longitudinal beams, which run from the coupling at the front to the light and number plate bracket at the rear. With the additional cross member that firmly connects the two longitudinal beams, all the aforementioned STEMA trailers achieve safe and stable driving characteristics, especially when transporting heavy loads and in critical driving situations.
The V-shaped drawbar offers additional safety. Conventional trailers are literally pressed from the boot directly into the car in the event of serious rear-end collisions. By contrast, in the case of STEMA trailers, the deformation forces are absorbed by the drawbar.
ADAC’s suggested improvements taken on board
The ADAC rating also included some suggestions from the motoring club, which STEMA has now implemented. Thus, all trailers have now been manufactured with a 13-pin coupling plug instead of a 7-pin one since 2024. The STEMA special model BASIC plus also comes with wheel chocks and a jockey wheel as standard, as recommended by the ADAC.
